Ian Royce Chamberlain will be reading as our guest poet for our Autumn series of poetry readings at The Creative Innovation Centre on Thursday September 6th 2018, at 8pm.
In a long career as a mechanical engineer, Ian Royce Chamberlain learned that, to work properly, a high-performance machine must be meticulously assembled. Poetry, he says, demands the precision engineering of words. Or, to combine both disciplines, “Put the bits together properly and it’ll work.”

Ian is a Moor Poet, co-founder of Teignmouth Poetry Festival and a regular at SW festivals and poetry events. His work has appeared in anthologies including the RSPB Anthology of Wildlife Poetry, The Broadsheet, the Exeter Festival ExCite series and many others. His first collection stumble into grace was published in 2012.
The new collection, Vertigo & Beeswax, from Oversteps Books, summarises six eventful years of upheaval and resettling. Mostly, the poems are more lyrical than the ‘Performance’ work for which he is perhaps better known. His readings always provide an entertaining mix of these very different voices.
