Unawares

Sometimes of an evening light will suddenly break,

Flooding the sky and spotlighting

A cottage miles away.

A blessing and a homecoming –

The sunset’s glory echoed in the east.

Strangers, I see you transfigured,

Immortal, but unawares –

Gazing perhaps at some other gilded homestead

Beyond the finite reach of your long shadows.
