No one expects to emerge from
their original skin unscathed.
There’s the itch and pull
of old scars to contend with,
the urge to indulge in a series of craven farewells.
One stern look in the mirror,
should fix that: wrinkles at the knees,
tightness around the chest.
Make a pact with yourself,
cherish this chance to ditch it,
give yourself a brisk rub down
with a rough towel: Get a grip.
